SERIES

The Carrie Diaries: In this new prequel series, AnnaSophia Robb makes a delightfully believable teenage Carrie Bradshaw of "Sex and the City" from a small-town high-school outcast (8 p.m. KTLA).

Extreme Smuggling:  This new unscripted crime series details the extreme efforts and schemes employed by drug dealers (8 p.m. Discovery).

Untold History of the United States:  The new episode "Bush & Obama: Age of Terror" looks at the War on Terror from a unique perspective (8 p.m. Showtime).

Continuum: In this new science fiction police procedural, a City Protective Services officer (Rachel Nichols) is transported from 2077 to deal with eight of the world's deadliest terrorists who managed to slip through a time warp on the eve of their execution. Tony Amendola and Stephen Lobo also star (8 p.m. Syfy).

Shipwreck Men:  The race is on for sunken treasure in yet another dangerous profession series (9 p.m. Discovery).

Being Human: Season 2 of the hit series ended with Aidan (Sam Witwer) buried alive, but he resurfaces, literally, in the season premiere. Meaghan Rath, Sam Huntington, Kristen Hager also star (9 p.m. Syfy).

Deception: As Joanna's (Meagan Good) investigation of Vivian's supposed drug overdose continues, Julian (Wes Brown) heads down his own self-destructive path to ease the pain of losing his sister, while suspicion grows that Vivian actually died at Edward's (Tate Donovan) hands in this new episode (10 p.m. NBC).

Castle: The murder of an up-and-coming DJ at a pop star's (Taylor Cole) album release party plunges Castle and Beckett (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) into the wild world of New York's music industry. With Jon Huertas and guest star Michael Irby (10 p.m. ABC).

SPORTS

College basketball: Louisville at Connecticut (4 p.m. ESPN); Baylor at Kansas (6 p.m. ESPN).

Pro basketball: The Clippers visit the Memphis Grizzlies (5 p.m. FS Prime).

Tennis: 2013 Australian Open Tennis (6 p.m. ESPN2 and midnight ESPN2).
