Golden Globes 2013: Affleck, Tarantino, Dunham hit the parties

The Golden Globes ceremony is a party all on its own, but the real fun happens at the after parties, most of which take place at different sites at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Because the parties — including those thrown by HBO, Warner Bros./InStyle, Weinstein Co., Fox and NBC Universal — are all within a short walk of one another, the stars can be seen bounding between multiple locations like excitable college kids on rush day.

The Warner Bros./InStyle party was among the most buoyant, with Al Roker, Gabby Douglas, Kobe Bryant and more on hand to celebrate Warner Bros.' big wins for "Argo" in the best picture category and Ben Affleck for best director.

Guests were treated to mounds of Godiva chocolate while the dance floor thumped with a tight knot of revelers and Affleck cozied up contentedly with his wife, Jennifer Garner.

Affleck’s younger brother, Casey, came by to celebrate with his wife, Summer Phoenix. Casey said he watched the show while in his pajamas on the couch.

"All these award shows have to do something to differentiate themselves, so that’s how this one went down. I don’t think he cares that much about the academy," Casey said of Ben’s Oscar snub, while Phoenix noticed that Casey's big brother’s Golden Globe was sitting unattended at the party.

"Casey," she said. "No one’s watching the Golden Globe."

"Summer, I’m sure it’s fine. I’m not going to watch it."

"I don’t want you to watch it," she said. "I want you to play a joke on him with it."

Meanwhile, the Weinstein Co. party seemed to reflect each of that company's films being honored. The front of the lavishly decorated, low-lighted room was fairly sedate. Harvey Weinstein lounged on the couch with "The Master" nominee Amy Adams while "Silver Linings Playbook" director David O. Russell relished taking photos of himself and his fellow party-goers. He held the camera at arm’s length and shot goofy stills, while his star Bradley Cooper looked on, amused.

The party corner of the evening belonged to the crew from Weinstein’s big winner: "Django Unchained." Crammed around a small table and couch were writer-director Quentin Tarantino, who took home an original screenplay award ("That was pretty cool, huh," he quipped); Kerry Washington, who was hanging with her manager; and Jonah Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio.

DiCaprio and Hill danced to the song "Soul Man" while DiCaprio sucked on an electronic cigarette. The two appeared to be engaged in a serious bromance, seemingly unaware of the hordes of women hovering on all sides.

The party served up loads of Moet Champagne, sushi from Katsuya and mini burgers and fries from Fatburger. Tarantino seemed to be downing burgers as quickly as he was downing drinks, while his date for the night was clearly disappointed with the generic party music being played at the event.

When asked if he'd sent his blond arm candy to do something about the music, Tarantino responded, “No, she did that all on her own.”

At that moment the song switched from "You Can’t Hurry Love" by the Supremes to "This Charming Man" by the Smiths. The song might not have appealed to everyone, but Tarantino’s corner was certainly content.

The HBO party hopped both inside and out at the hotel’s Circa 55 restaurant with a mood elevated by the big wins for “Girls” and its star and creator, Lena Dunham.

Guests snacked on a vast buffet of chicken, pork and ribs while multiple open bars kept things well-lubricated.

“Girls” stars Dunham, Zosia Mamet and Allison Williams flitted about in a state of total elation. Other guests included “Game Change” star Julianne Moore, Jane Fonda, P. Diddy, Jeff Daniels, Sally Field, and Seth MacFarlane and his girlfriend, Emilia Clarke.
