Michael Crabtree, the talented young receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, traveled with the team to Atlanta for the NFC championship game after meeting with police regarding an alleged sexual assault.

An attorney for Crabtree, 25, said his client met voluntarily with police, who are investigating an incident that took place Sunday at a San Francisco hotel after the 49ers defeated the Green Bay Packers in a divisional playoff game.

“Michael fully cooperated with the inspectors and will continue to do so throughout this investigation,” attorney Joshua Bentley said in a brief statement emailed to the Associated Press.

No details of the sexual assault allegation have been released by the police.

“The 49ers take such matters very seriously,” 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. “We will have no further comment at this time as the legal process is ongoing.”

Crabtree, who is 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, had 85 receptions for 1,105 yards and nine touchdowns this season, all career bests. The fourth-year receiver had nine catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns in the 45-31 victory over the Packers last week.

San Francisco plays the Falcons at noon PST on Sunday with the winner going to the Super Bowl to take on the AFC champion. New England and Baltimore play at 3:30 p.m. PST Sunday in the AFC title game.
