Tiger Woods now has 75 PGA tour victories, second on the all-time list behind… (Gregory Bull / Associated…)
LA JOLLA -- Tiger Woods in 2008 needed an extra Monday of drama in June to secure his 14th major championship at the U.S. Open.
There was nothing, manic, however, about the fourth Monday of 2013 at Torrey Pines.
Woods had such a commanding lead at the Farmers Insurance Open that he could afford a sloppy ending to an uneven tournament.
Woods finished his fog-delayed final 11 holes, and the field, in a somewhat easy four-shot victory in his 2013 American debut on the PGA Tour.
Woods finished with a final-round 72 and a four-round total of 14-under 274. Brandt Snedeker and Josh Teater tied for second at 10-under 278, while Jimmy Walker and Nick Watney both finished at nine-under 279.
Woods had an eight-shot lead at 18-under before he played his last five holes at four-over par.
He followed a bogey at No. 15 with a double-bogey six at the par-four 15th hole and also made bogey at No. 17.
Woods finished with par at the 18th to close out his 75th victory on the PGA Tour, leaving him seven behind Sam Snead’s record of 82.
A fog delay on Saturday that postponed almost the entire third round pushed the tournament’s conclusion to Monday, which only delayed the inevitable.
Woods had a six-shot lead over Snedeker and Watney when final-round play was suspended Sunday due to darkness with all 87 players still on course.
Woods had some bobbles as he finished up his Monday round. His drove his tee shot on the par-five ninth hole right into a fenced area next to a temporary tournament tent. Woods carved a terrific second shot through a narrow corridor of fans and ended up saving par.
He also found the green-side bunker on the 211-yard, par-three 11th but, out of an awkward position, hit a brilliant sand shot to within two feet.
Woods didn't have to be brilliant to win Monday. He basically had to show up.
