Robert De Niro, who is nominated for his seventh Oscar for the quirky romantic comedy "Silver Linings Playbook," will talk about his craft after a screening of the David O. Russell film late Monday afternoon at the American Cinematheque's Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.

De Niro's personal appearance kicks off the Cinematheque and the Actors Studio retrospective, "An Actor's Playbook: An In-Person Tribute to Robert De Niro."

The actor is no stranger to the Oscar circle -- he won the Academy for supporting actor for 1974's "The Godfather: Part II" and for lead actor for 1980's "Raging Bull."

Screening on Tuesday are two early films he made with director Martin Scorsese -- 1976's "Taxi Driver," for which De Niro earned his first lead actor Oscar nomination, and the landmark 1973 gangster film "Mean Streets."

The retrospective concludes Wednesday with two more films for which De Niro earned nominations -- 1990's "Awakenings" and Scorsese's 1991 "Cape Fear."
