Long Beach Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal announced Tuesday that she plans to run for mayor.
Her announcement comes days after Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster said he would not seek a third term.
“Long Beach is my home. She is home to my family,” Lowenthal said in a statement. “I am deeply committed to the future of our great city.
Lowenthal is serving a second term as a representative of the Second District, which includes parts of downtown and coastal communities, as well as the Port of Long Beach.
She is also serving as an alternate to the California Coastal Commission and is the port town's representative on the Metropolitan Water District board.
