Alex Permann had a moment few of us ever have. For a brief time, he thought he had won $50,000. Then it was all taken away from him because he didn't pay attention to the rules.
Permann was attending Sunday's Missouri Valley Conference title game between Creighton and Wichita State when he was chosen to take part in the halftime contest. All he had to do was make a layup, a free throw, a three-pointer and a half-court shot in 24 seconds and he would win $50,000.
Permann made the layup, he sank the free throw. Then he ran out to half-court and made that shot. $50,000! The crowd went crazy. Permann jumped around the court, arms raised in triumph. But he had forgotten something: the three-pointer.
