Kansas City 13, Angels 9

AT THE PLATE: Mike Trout doubled to deep center in his first two at-bats, driving in two runs with his second-inning hit. Mark Trumbo had a run-scoring double in the first and an RBI single in the second. Josh Hamilton hit a two-run triple in the second, a play on which Albert Pujols, who is recovering from knee surgery, scored from first. Howie Kendrick's 16-game spring hitting streak came to an end.

ON THE MOUND: The Royals scored seven runs off C.J. Wilson in the third, which featured Salvador Perez's two-run single, Eric Hosmer's two-run homer to center and Jeff Francoeur's prodigious solo shot to center, which sailed over the 30-foot-high batter's eye, 420 feet from home plate. Left-handed reliever Sean Burnett retired the side in order in the fifth.

EXTRA BASES: Reliever Kevin Jepsen, sidelined since March 9 because of a tight triceps, returned to game action Friday, giving up one run and two hits in one inning of a minor league game. Reliever Ryan Madson said his surgically repaired elbow felt fine after Thursday's 25-pitch bullpen workout, and he expects to throw off a mound again Sunday.
