Jacoby Jones stands with pro partner Karina Smirnoff and host Tom Bergeron… (ABC )
The Times is pleased to have Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones guest-blogging for us while he competes on "Dancing With the Stars." Each week while he competes on the show, Jones will answer a few questions from Sports Now editor Houston Mitchell and give some insight into the competition. Here are Jones' thoughts about Week 1, which he offered via email.
Q: They showed a great clip during the show of you dancing with your mom: How did she think you did on your first dance Monday?
My mom is my #1 fan and my greatest critic. She thinks I did a great job considering the short time I had to practice, which was only one week. She did say that due to my height and the intensity of the moves I need to improve on my posture in order to execute with more precision.
Q: You are one of the favorites going into the competition, and football players always do well on the show. Do you feel any extra pressure because of that?
I definitely want to keep the NFL tradition going by doing good on the show. But it's not any pressure, I'm here to have fun. I love to dance and now I’m able to compete on this type of stage - man, I love it!
Q: If someone told you a year ago that not only would you be a Super Bowl champion, but you would also be one of the early favorites on "Dancing With the Stars," what would you have told them?
Honestly, I have always wanted to do DWTS, especially after seeing my man Donald Driver and Hines Ward do so well. I don’t think I am a favorite. There are a lot of amazing dancers on the show. We are all competing. In reference to winning the Super Bowl, I worked so hard this past off season I wasn't settling for anything else. So it seems like everything ended up playing itself out.
