AT THE PLATE: Mike Trout singled and scored on a passed ball in the first inning and walked in the third against the Brewers. The leadoff batter is hitting .395 (17 for 43) with a team-leading 18 runs. Howie Kendrick, who is batting .481 (26 for 54), hit a run-scoring triple in the first, and Peter Bourjos doubled in a run in the seventh.
ON THE MOUND: Joe Blanton pitched well against the Cubs, giving up two earned runs and seven hits in six innings, striking out five and walking none to lower his earned-run average to 3.46. Left-hander Nick Maronde, a candidate for a bullpen spot, was tagged for four runs and four hits, including a home run, in an inning, and Ernesto Frieri gave up a run and one hit in an inning.
EXTRA BASES: Mark Trumbo, who led the team in home runs the last two seasons, is batting .255 with no home runs. "I have no concern," Trumbo said. "I've had springs before where I haven't hit any homers and have done fine. It's more important that I'm healthy."
