An Orange County man who killed his father in a dispute over whether he could keep a gun in their home was sentenced Friday to 50 years to life in prison.
A jury in March found Jeremy Martin, 37, guilty of murder in the May 20, 2011 shooting death of 62-year-old Frederick Martin in his Huntington Beach home.
Early that day, prosecutors said, the two got into a “verbal and physical argument” because the elder Martin was unhappy that his son was keeping a gun in their home.
Frederick Martin called 911 and asked that police “evaluate” his son but did not mention the argument or the firearm. Huntington Beach police went to the home, but no one answered the door.
