Earthquake: 3.0 quake strikes near Portola, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported Friday afternoon, 11 miles from Portola, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 5:57 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 3.7 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 40 miles from Truckee, Calif., 42 miles from Grass Valley, Calif., 44 miles from Susanville, Calif. and 63 miles from Carson City, Nev.

In the past 10 days, there have been two earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
