Boys' basketball: Mater Dei is No. 1 in preseason state rankings

 Santa Ana Mater Dei is ranked No. 1 in the CalHiSports.com preseason state boys' basketball rankings. The Monarchs have won three consecutive state championships, and Stanley Johnson is back for his senior year.

Etiwanda is No. 2. The Eagles defeated Mater Dei to win the Southern Section Division 1AA championship.

St. John Bosco is No. 3. The Braves return standouts Tyler Dorsey and Daniel Hamilton, plus added 6-foot-8 sophomore Vance Jackson, a transfer from La Salle.

Westchester is No. 4.  Oakland Bishop O'Dowd is No. 5, Los Angeles Loyola No. 6, Corona Centennial No. 7, Compton No. 8, Modesto Christian No. 9 and Woodland Hills El Camino Real No. 10.

Other locals: Redondo is No. 11, Long Beach Poly No. 12, Chaminade No. 13, Gardena Serra No. 14, Bishop Montgoery No. 17, L.A. Windward No. 20, Rancho Cucamonga No. 21, Chino Hills No. 23 and Riverside North No. 24.
