A man suspected of stabbing a woman was shot and killed Friday evening by a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 6:45 p.m. in the 2400 block of Earle Avenue in Rosemead. The man, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female stabbing victim was taken to a hospital. Her condition was unknown.

No information was available about the circumstances of the stabbing or shooting, said L.A. County Sheriff's Deputy Irys Alvares. Detectives are on scene conducting an investigation.

"They're going be there a long time," Alvarez said.
