A man broke the fall of a woman who was apparently trying to commit suicide by jumping from the third-level deck at O.co Coliseum following the Oakland Raiders' loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
The man, identified by the San Jose Mercury News as a 61-year-old Marine Corps veteran and lifelong Raiders fan from Stockton, called out to the unidentified woman from the concourse area, repeatedly shouting, "Don't do it!"
When she didn't listen, he stepped underneath the falling woman in an attempt to catch her and was seriously injured himself. But police said he is conscious and expected to survive. The woman also suffered critical injuries from the 45-foot fall.
“He saved her life quite honestly at his own expense,” Alameda County sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson said Sunday night outside of the stadium. “This guy 100% saved her life. She'd be dead now.”
