5 videos to introduce new Apple retail chief Angela Ahrendts

October 15, 2013|By Chris O'Brien

In Britain, Angela Ahrendts is a big name. She's an Indiana native whose career in the fashion industry led her to take the chief executive job at Burberry and revive its sagging fortunes.

However, in her homeland, she's less well known. She can be found quite often hobnobbing with tech leaders from Silicon Valley. And when giving talks, she frequently has an iPad in her hand or a Macbook on the podium.

Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said he just met Ahrendts in January. In an email to Apple employees, Cook wrote:

"We met for the first time last January, and I knew in that meeting that I wanted her to join Apple," Cook wrote. "We’ve gotten to know each other over the past several months and I’ve left each conversation even more impressed."

He goes on to say: "She shares our values and our focus on innovation. She places the same strong emphasis as we do on the customer experience. She cares deeply about people and embraces our view that our most important resource and our soul is our people. She believes in enriching the lives of others and she is wicked smart. Angela has shown herself to be an extraordinary leader throughout her career and has a proven track record. She led Burberry through a period of phenomenal growth with a focus on brand, culture, core values and the power of positive energy."

Here are five videos to help you get to know Ahrendts better (including the one embedded at the top of this post):
