A Los Angeles police officer sustained a minor injury Thursday night while he and other officers were searching for a man reportedly armed with a gun in North Hollywood.

Officers were searching a roughly eight-block area near Magnolia Boulevard and Satsuma Avenue, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The officer was injured as he jumped a chain link fence, according to KTLA-TV Channel 5.

The incident began around 7:20 p.m. after officers in the area confronted the man, who took off running, according to KTLA.

Residents were not being allowed in the area while officers and search dogs scoured the area. Overhead, an LAPD helicopter circled.

The injured officer was taken to a hospital.

No additional details were immediately available.
