Burglar convicted of assaulting girl, 10, as she slept

A Fullerton man was convicted Wednesday of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl as she slept during a residential burglary in Buena Park, prosecutors said.

The incident was one in a string of burglaries.

Prosecutors said Joel Solis Aguirre, 24, broke into a home in June 2010 and was searching for property to steal when saw the girl asleep upstairs.

When the girl began to cry, Aguirre fled, leaving fingerprints, prosecutors said.

A few days later, he broke into another home and stole wallets, purses and cellphones. One day later, he committed another burglary, prosecutors said in a written statement.

When he tried to break into a fourth home, a resident called police and Aguirre was found hiding in some bushes.

Aguirre was homeless at the time, prosecutors said.

He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and mandatory lifetime registration as a sex offender at his sentencing in November.
