An elderly man was shot and killed early Thursday morning during a home invasion in upscale Encino, authorities said.

The victim, believed to be in his 80s, confronted the suspect who had entered his home about 2:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of Andasol Avenue, Los Angles Police Department Officer Cleon Joseph said. The suspect then shot the victim.

Police arrived shortly afterward and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
