Football: Alemany shows it can run the ball

September 22, 2013|By Eric Sondheimer

Unbeaten Mission Hills Alemany (4-0) offered a big surprise in its 45-28 victory over Corona Centennial: the ability to run the ball.

Coach Dean Herrington has been known for his ability to develop quarterbacks through the years, first as offensive coordinator at Newhall Hart.

But Herrington also knows the importance of a good running game to help the passing game, and against Centennial, Alemany rushed for 326 yards. In fact, the Warriors ran the ball 47 times and attempted just 14 passes.

Coaches always say that running the ball effectively opens up the passing game. And Alemany has a versatile quarterback in Alif Grayes and an improving offensive line.
