Football: Players rise up in Alemany-St. Bonaventure game [Video]

September 28, 2013|By Eric Sondheimer

Yes, Ventura St. Bonaventure lost to Alemany, 38-24, on Friday night, but a couple of young players were pretty stunning.

Sophomore quarterback Darius Vines, filling in for the injured Ricky Town, passsed for 295 yards. Junior receiver Lavan Alston, trying to help replace the injured Bryce Dixon, had touchdown receptions of 60 and 21 yards and 235 yards receiving.

Both have bright futures.

Alemany is 5-0 and has its own rising star in senior quarterback Alif Grayes, who completed 15 of 17 passes for 270 yards and also ran for 111 yards in 10 carries. Those are Vernon Adams-like numbers. Adams, the former Alemany quarterback, is now at Eastern Washington.

Junior running back Dominic Davis had three touchdowns for Alemany.

For Alemany to knock off Corona Centennial and St. Bonaventure in consecutive games gives the Warriors confidence they can be a huge factor in the Pac-5 Division playoffs.

Now league play begins. St. Bonaventure takes on Westlake on Thursday night at Santa Barbara City College in a Marmonte League opener.

Alemany has a final nonleague road game at Norco.
