Jonny Gomes and the rest of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox visited the White House on Tuesday and ...

That's OK, I'll wait.

No, no, take all the time you need.

I know you're too distracted by the photo of Gomes' outrageous, American flag-inspired blazer to pay attention to anything I have to say.

That's fine. Gomes' outfit was pretty much all I was going to talk about anyway.

It's not every day you see a fashion statement like that — although that might change.

Gomes presented identical stars-and-stripes sports coats to all his teammates, making it clear that he didn't expect any of them to wear the patriotic garments to the White House (and none of them did).

Even President Obama got one of his very own.

“[Obama] approved and made sure to tell me he liked it,” Gomes said. “He thanked me for his and the team signing it. He definitely approved. He looked me right in the eyes and said, ‘Nice jacket.’"

Gomes added: “Not too much went into it. I’m just a patriotic person, whether it’s my outfit or what I stand for. I didn’t want to be too much of distraction and I hope it’s not. I’m just truly blessed for my freedom and what the flag stands for.”
