UConn's Stefanie Dolson has words for President Obama, Jimmy Fallon

April 09, 2014|By Chuck Schilken

Stefanie Dolson seems like the type of person who is never at a lack for words.

Nor does she appear to be one to fall back on sports cliches when being interviewed after a big game, like, say, the national championship.

I'm basing this solely on the senior center's comments after Connecticut's 70-58 victory over Notre Dame on Tuesday to wrap up an undefeated season and a second straight NCAA title.

"President Obama, we're baa-aaack!" she said into the ESPN microphone being broadcast inside the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., and on TV sets across the country.

Actually, the president might actually appreciate the warning. Check out this photo Dolson tweeted out after the Huskies' visit to the White House last summer. That's her at the top on the far left, giving the leader of the free world bunny ears.

Dolson was named an All-American this season, during which she became only the fifth UConn player to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. But she has meant so much more to the team.

The New York Times mentioned Dolson's "bouncy personality, her sense of humor, her eclectic clothes and her willingness to break into a dance at any moment." NBC Connecticut called her "the comedian of the team."

Which is probably why it probably surprised no one during the same postgame interview Tuesday night when she proceeded to challenge the president to a dance-off, then asked "Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon to contact her.

"There's been very, very few people that I've encountered in my life that have enjoyed the experience more than she has, and brought that kind of joy to the court and to everything else that we do," Coach Geno Auriemma said.
