Baseball: Angelo Armenta hits home run in ninth to give Loyola 7-6 victory

USC-bound shortstop Angelo Armenta of Los Angeles Loyola hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning on Thursday to give the Cubs a 7-6 Mission League victory over Crespi. He had two home runs and thee hits on the day.

Jack Poulsen threw four innings of shutout relief. Dustin Shirley had two RBIs. It was Loyola's 14th consecutive victory and sets up a two-game series on Monday and Thursday against Harvard-Westlake for first place. Matt Orozco had double and triple for Crespi.

In the Sunset League, Edison defeated Marina, 9-5, behind Brian Schales, who went three for three with a home run. Fountain Valley defeated Los Alamitos, 12-3. Scott Schultz (7-0) allowed one hits in six scoreless innings. Brock Lundquist hit a grand slam, his fifth home run of the season. Huntington Beach defeated Newport Harbor, 4-0. Noah Davis threw five shutout innings. Jesse Kuet had a home run and double.

In the Southwestern League, Vista Murrieta defeated Chaparral, 14-5. Coltin Gerhart went four for four with three RBIs. Ian Nowak had a double, triple and five RBIs. Great Oak defeated Murrieta Mesa, 10-5.

In the Olympic League, Jesse Hanckel threw a shutout in Village Christian's 5-0 win over Whittier Christian.

In the Valley Mission League, San Fernando defeated Sylmar, 10-3. Miguel Castaneda had three hits and three RBIs. Ariel Torres threw a complete game.

In the Marine League, junior Justin Yanez threw his third consecutive shutout in Banning's 7-0 win over San Pedro. He has 24 shutout innings over four games.

In the Western League, Hamilton rallied from an 8-0 deficit to defeat University, 17-8. Ethan Lazar and Dakota Kravetz each hit two-run home runs.

Riverside North defeated Valley View, 7-5. Christian Koss had three hits.

In Las Vegas, Hart defeated Arizona Page, 9-0. Nick Valaika, Cody Miller, Colby Kaneshiro and Chad Haslock each had two hits.
