April 24, 2014|By Joseph Serna

Two people were killed and five others injured in a multicar crash on the 5 Freeway in Orange County on Thursday morning that sent debris flying and shut down several traffic lanes.

The crash occurred just before 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes near the Jamboree Road exit in Irvine, according to the California Highway Patrol. At least four cars were involved in the wreck, which sent debris into the southbound lanes, temporarily blocking traffic, according to CHP logs.

A Sigalert was issued and three northbound lanes were blocked indefinitely, officials said. An investigation into the crash was ongoing.

Five people were hospitalized in connection with the crash, KNBC-TV reported.

There was no immediate information available on the types of injuries suffered or the identities of the victims.
