3D Systems Corp., a Valencia maker of stereolithography systems, said it will seek stockholder approval for a one-for-three reverse stock split. The proposed split would reduce the shares of common stock outstanding from 27.5 million to 9.2 million as of May 24. The company wishes to boost its share price to attract more institutional investors, said Terry Slavin, company spokesman. 3D Systems' stock closed at $5 per share on Monday.

Valencia-based 3D Systems Corp., a maker of computer-imaging systems, posted a profit of $270,305 for its third quarter ended Oct. 1 on record quarterly sales of $8.1 million. The profit contrasts with a net loss of $544,177 in the same period last year on $6.9 million of sales. The company said the latest quarter's net income figure includes a $100,000 charge related to discontinuing its Japanese subsidiary's operations. In place of the unit, 3D said it has appointed INCS Inc.

Its revenue rose 30%, to $7.23 million from $5.55 million. In the six months ended June 30, 3D lost $1.19 million, in contrast with a loss of $733,083 in the same period in 1992. 3D Systems Corp. reported a net loss for its third quarter of $2.1 million, compared with a net income of $1 million a year earlier. The Valencia-based company, whose products are used to make three-dimensional models based on computer-generated designs, posted revenues for the quarter that ended Sept. 26 of $22.3 million, up 13% from $19.8 million a year ago. For the nine months, 3D reported a net loss of $2 million, compared with a net income of $2.9 million in 1996, and sales of $65.

Shares of 3D Systems Corp. of Valencia jumped nearly 26%, or $3.19, to $15.63 in Nasdaq trading Wednesday, which the company said might reflect new investor interest following recent presentations it has made to financial analysts. Nearly 1 million shares traded, more than 10 times the company's typical daily volume, lifting the stock to its highest close since 1997.
