Shares of 3D Systems Corp. of Valencia jumped nearly 26%, or $3.19, to $15.63 in Nasdaq trading Wednesday, which the company said might reflect new investor interest following recent presentations it has made to financial analysts. Nearly 1 million shares traded, more than 10 times the company's typical daily volume, lifting the stock to its highest close since 1997.

According to a filing Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Clark Estates Inc. has purchased about 594,000 shares of the company's stock. 3D Systems is a maker of prototype modeling systems that are designed using laser and computer-aided design techniques. 3D Systems stock has been trading recently for about $7.50 a share.

For the nine months, 3D reported a net loss of $2 million, compared with a net income of $2.9 million in 1996, and sales of $65.
