A proposal for a commercial helicopter pad on the Calabasas Landfill was rejected Wednesday by the county Regional Planning Commission. In addition, Supervisor Mike Antonovich has withdrawn his support for the project because of community opposition, his chief deputy said.

A cargo helicopter returning from a lifting job flipped out of control and slammed into a soggy suburban hillside Monday, killing all three people aboard. The victims were employees of San Jose-based Air One Helicopters, which owned the twin-engine Sikorsky S-58T helicopter. One victim had escaped injury last month when an identical Air One helicopter crashed into a San Jose rooftop, killing the pilot. The victims' names were being withheld pending notification of their families.
