Sweden's government said it will decommission the first of its 12 nuclear reactors by 1995 as a first step toward scrapping the entire network. Prime Minister Ingvar Carlsson told the opening session of Parliament that the ruling Social Democrats proposed closing a second reactor by 1996. The remaining 10 would go by the year 2010.
