Nick Saban , people trainer. The coach tells Alabama fans to sit and stay, they sit and stay. Saban made news in the days leading up to Saturday's game against Tennessee when he complained about the Crimson Tide's late-arriving and early-leaving student fans. "Everybody else should have the same sort of commitment" as the people in his program, Saban said during his radio show Thursday. "You don't have to do the work all week, you don't have to practice, you don't have to come in at 7 in the morning and leave at 11 at night, you don't have to do any of that stuff.

The most polarizing proposal in recent college football history was tabled Wednesday, as in shelved, one day before a NCAA rules committee was going to vote on the controversial pace-of-play issue. The rule would have penalized a team for snapping the ball in the first 10 seconds of the 40 second clock. The irony is the penalty would have been for delay of game. There is nothing inherently wrong with studying whether or not up-tempo offenses pose a player safety concern.

Former USC Coach Lane Kiffin spent a week last month observing Alabama's program. Now, with Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier taking a similar position at Michigan, Kiffin is in consideration to replace him with the Crimson Tide, according to several reports . Kiffin and Alabama Coach Nick Saban are friends and share the same agent, Jimmy Sexton. USC Athletic Director Pat Haden fired Kiffin on Sept. 29, after the Trojans returned to Los Angeles from a loss at Arizona State.

The rich just got richer. Signing players from 15 states, Alabama Coach Nick Saban continues to have the magic touch in college football recruiting. Both Rivals- .com and Scout.com proclaimed Alabama's recruiting class No. 1 in the nation on Wednesday. "They got a stud at every single position," said Greg Biggins, a national recruiting analyst for Scout.com. "There's not one single area that they didn't fill with an impact type of kid. They can recruit nationally unlike anyone right now. They're on a different level.

It seems unlikely that Ron Jaworski will be rooting for Alabama against Notre Dame in the BCS title game on Jan. 7. And it's definitely unlikely that Jaworski wants to ever be in the same room with Alabama Coach Nick Saban. Saban's name is one that comes up frequently when it comes to college coaches making the jump to the NFL next season. Saban coached the Miami Dolphins for a couple of years, and since leaving that job to take the Alabama reins, he has turned the Crimson Tide into an NCAA powerhouse.

No. 3 Alabama is positively old-fashioned. Other teams may have their shiny new spread offenses and pass-first mentality. The Crimson Tide just keeps getting it done with special teams and defense. Alabama picked off four Jevan Snead passes and scored twice after special-teams miscues to smother No. 20 Mississippi, 22-3, on Saturday. "This was the most complete win we've had all year, in a difficult situation," Alabama Coach Nick Saban said. "It's like climbing a mountain.

Alabama is No. 1 across the board when it comes to college football rankings, and rightfully so. The Crimson Tide certainly appears to be the best team in the nation with a dream matchup against the speedy Oregon Ducks in the BCS national title game a strong possibility. That makes Alabama's game on Saturday against dynamic quarterback Johnny Manziel -- a.k.a. Johnny Football -- and No. 15 Texas A&M very intriguing. Coming off a hard-fought, come-from-behind 21-17 victory over Southeastern Conference rival Louisiana State last week, many think the Tide could be primed for an upset.

College football's injury policy is a joke, the byproduct of no central leadership and paranoid, highly paid coaches who still think it's 1980. Last week's debacle with USC and an L.A. Daily News reporter over the legitimate reporting of an injury to the Trojans' kicker underscored how Draconian coaches have become in trying to protect their programs. The irony with USC is that the issue, which was resolved, served as the kind of distraction during a "big-game" week that coaches so desperately try to avoid.

. -- Julio Jones left defenders grasping at his heels and Alabama's defense was typically immovable. The Crimson Tide is riding that combination to the SEC championship game for the second consecutive season. The popular Jones made the biggest play of what has been a relatively quiet sophomore season, breaking free for a 73-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, and No. 3 Alabama locked down No. 9 Louisiana State in a 24-15 victory Saturday. Leigh Tiffin booted a 40-yard field goal with 3:04 left to seal it and the Crimson Tide (9-0, 6-0 Southeastern Conference)

Alabama and Georgia are playing Saturday for the first time since ... 2008. Such is the nature of scheduling in the Southeastern Conference and the quirks of the Bowl Championship Series. Alabama, for example, won the BCS title last season when Georgia won the SEC East. The teams avoided each other in the SEC title game, however, because Alabama made the BCS title game without winning the SEC West. LSU won the division and then defeated Georgia. The Tigers were "rewarded" with a rematch against Alabama that the Tigers lost at the Superdome.

North Texas visited Oklahoma on opening weekend in 2007 and was clobbered, 79-10. A few days later, sitting in his home office a few blocks from where the wipeout took place, Barry Switzer said North Texas got what it deserved. "They had no game plan for losing," the Sooners' former coach said. By that he meant North Texas kept passing and giving the ball back to Oklahoma. The Mean Green threw the ball 38 times and ran only 31. "When you can't win a game, you need to run the clock," Switzer said.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The only quarterback in the stadium Monday night who knew how to defeat Alabama wasn't allowed to take a snap. Johnny Manziel, the Heisman Trophy winner, watched from the stands, perhaps reminiscing about his team's upset win at Tuscaloosa on Nov. 10. Manziel plays for Texas A&M, however, not Notre Dame. Notre Dame's quarterback had no clue, but neither did anyone else in the Fighting Irish traveling party. Forty-four days and nights of biblical hype for this year's Bowl Championship Series title game produced not a classic, but a football flood.

ATLANTA -- No one down here in Southeastern Conference country was surprised Sunday when the final Bowl Championship Series standings confirmed Alabama would be playing Jan. 7 for the national title. The surprise is why the SEC isn't playing the SEC again, just like last season. "Do you think Florida deserves to play for the national title more than Notre Dame?" someone actually asked Alabama Coach Nick Saban on Saturday after his team clinched the SEC with a 32-28 win over Georgia.
