It's the spring of 2015, and the car rental workers at John Wayne Airport in Orange County are reporting that visitors from Pittsburgh, Kansas City, New York, Tampa, Boston and Atlanta have been making strange requests. Instead of the usual, "How do you get to Disneyland?" they're asking, "How do you get to Aliso Niguel High?" Call it the Kyle Molnar effect. Over the next three baseball seasons, the 6-foot-3 right-hander has a chance to become a pitcher who thrills scouts, excites fans and fires up opponents hoping to test themselves against the best.

There was a knock at the Owens house in Huntington Beach. Henry Owens was in no mood to answer. He was a 16-year-old sophomore pitcher who had just recorded his first loss for Edison High. He thought it might have cost his team a Sunset League title. At the door was his senior teammate, pitcher Kurt Heyer. "Come and walk with me," Heyer said. They walked around the neighborhood. Owens listened and learned. "He talked about erasing the last game and coming back the next game and throwing like I can," Owens said.

Downey High School sent its homecoming queen packing, crown and all, after she was seen making sexually suggestive moves on the dance floor a few years back. Aliso Niguel High School Principal Charles Salter made good on a threat to cancel school dances in 2006 as officials there and elsewhere fretted over how to deal with freaking, grinding and other provocative dances. Their solution: Fight explicit teen dancing with an equal dose of explicitness. Downey and Aliso Niguel are among the first schools to draft "dance contracts," binding agreements that parents and students must sign before a teenager can step onto the dance floor.
