Moscow Joint Venture: Americom International Corp. of Irvine and Radisson Hotels International of Minneapolis have formed a joint venture with Intourist, the Soviet government travel agency, to manage an $80-million hotel and business complex Intourist has built in Moscow. Under the joint venture, called RadAmer-Intourist, Radisson will manage a 430-room hotel and Americom will oversee a 170-suite business complex.

In an attempt to save its stalled Soviet venture, Americom International Corp. appointed Eric O. Knapp to head its Moscow hotel and business project Wednesday, the same day that President Bush met with Moscow business leaders in the facility. When the American Trade Center in Moscow opens for business in September, top U.S. and Soviet officials will be on hand to cut the ribbon to the first Western-managed hotel and business complex in the Soviet Union. The complex is the first Soviet project of Americom International Corp., an Irvine development company. And Americom seems to have scored a hit. The deal may look simple on paper, but it took years of behind-the-scenes political and economic maneuvering to pull it off.

There were deals to sell fuel-cleaning systems in Spain, hamburger franchises in Indonesia, computer hardware to China, Playboy and other magazines in the Soviet Union, and to mine gold in the Philippines.
