Marion Jones of Sherman Oaks, who broke the girls' youth division national record in the 200 meters two weeks ago, won her specialty in 24.93 seconds Saturday in the youth division of The Athletic Congress National Championships in Arlington, Tex. In addition, Jones, 13, won the 100 in 12.12. In the boys' competition, Woodland Hills' Aqueel Rasheed, 13, won the 100 (11.24) and 200 (23.38) in the youth division (ages 12-13).

A season that could be rated as one of the finest for California high school sprinters will continue today in the 28th Foot Locker Arcadia Invitational at Arcadia High. The invitational session begins at 4 p.m. for field events and 6:30 for running events. The open session starts at 11 a.m. The girls' sprint races are expected to be especially competitive. In the 100 meters, defending state champion Heather Sumpter of Pasadena Muir will face Andrea Anderson of Long Beach Poly.

Thousand Oaks senior Marion Jones is the main attraction at today's 26th Arcadia High Track Invitational, which will begin with field events at 4 p.m. The running events start at 6:35 with the boys' 400-meter relay and end with the boys' 1,600 relay at 10. Nearly 7,500 are expected to watch top prep track athletes from across the nation. Jones holds national prep records of 11.14 seconds in the 100 and 22.58 in the 200.

As usual, All-American Marion Jones of Thousand Oaks High figures to be the best--and the busiest--athlete at tonight's Masters Meet at Cerritos College. The senior is expected to easily win the 100- and 200-meter sprints and the long jump, events she leads the nation in this season. She also will anchor the 1,600-meter relay team, which is not expected to qualify for next week's State meet. Field events begin at 6:30 p.m. and running events at 7.

Two exciting freshman girl sprinters, Zahalea Showe of Long Beach Poly and Angela Williams of Chino, shared the spotlight Friday during the high school portion of the 37th annual Mt. SAC Relays. Showe, who ran the opening legs on the 400- and 800-meter relay teams, helped the Jackrabbits record the fastest prep girls' time in the nation this year. Williams, who ran the fastest prep girls' 400 in the nation last week at the Arcadia Invitational, 54.59 seconds, won the 400 this time in 54.

The top two girls' high school sprinters in the nation had one more showdown Friday night in preparation for next weekend's state meet, with Andrea Anderson of Long Beach Poly edging rival LaKeisha Backus of Long Beach Wilson in the 100 and 200 meters at the Southern Section Masters Meet at Cerritos College.
