The longtime publisher of the Laguna Hills Leisure World phone book won't pursue punitive damages against two former advertising sales employees it had sued successfully for fraud and unfair business practices. Anchor Publications of Orange won a $1.1-million jury award on Dec. 19 against Clare Twedt and Eric Tencamp, contending that while under contract to Anchor they secretly set up a competing company that stole away the Leisure World business.

A Superior Court judge has thrown out a $1.1-million jury award and ordered a new trial in a lawsuit over rival phone books at Laguna Hills Leisure World. Judge Ragnar Engebretsen ruled Monday in Santa Ana that there was too little evidence to support the judgment against Clare Twedt and Eric Tencamp, who published a rival 1997 phone book for Leisure World. Twedt and Tencamp are former employees of Anchor Publications, which had published a Leisure World directory for years.

A woman who last year won the right to publish the official Laguna Hills Leisure World phone book was held liable Friday for defrauding the phone book's longtime publisher, which had sued her after losing the contract. An Orange County Superior Court jury ruled unanimously for the plaintiff, Anchor Publications of Orange. The jury awarded Anchor $1.1 million in damages from its former advertising employee, Clare Twedt, her Farmers Publications and a Farmers employee.
