Andre Iguodala waited for the clock to tick down, took a few dribbles to his right and let go a high-arching jumper. Swish! The Magic was stunned, the fans in Orlando silenced. For the Philadelphia 76ers, it was the sweet sound of stealing home-court advantage. Iguodala made a 22-foot jumper with 2.2 seconds remaining, and the 76ers rallied from an 18-point deficit to beat Orlando, 100-98, in Game 1 of their opening-round playoff series Sunday.

The Golden State Warriors choked. One of them did, anyway. Klay Thompson was talking to reporters after the game when he accidentally inhaled the deodorant spray Draymond Green was using two lockers away. Thompson's eyes watered and he coughed for a bit as he touched his throat. It was a momentary setback, nothing compared to what the Clippers experienced in a 109-105 loss Saturday to Golden State in a playoff opener. The Warriors were supposed to get beat without shot-blocking rebounder Andrew Bogut.

Sixers All-Star forward Andre Iguodala reflected on the pressures of the pro game: "I think it weighs on any basketball player when they are not playing and they think they should be playing," he said. "Some guys, they go to a vice or they go to something that not only hinders their game but it hinders their health overall. Guys can drink; guys can go to drugs. That's the part of the league that people don't see. " After Philadelphia blew past Boston, 103-71, Celtics Coach Doc Rivers was asked about the 76ers' showboating: "If I was a player and I was in and I had a 40-point lead, and I could get a dunk, I'm getting a dunk.

The Lakers (13-13) can leapfrog the ninth-place Golden State Warriors (14-13) with a win on Saturday night in Oakland. To do so, they'll need to win a road game on the second night of back-to-back games despite playing without Kobe Bryant (knee), Steve Blake (elbow), Jordan Farmar (hamstring) and Steve Nash (back). The Lakers have already split a pair against the Warriors. Their last visit to Golden State was also on the second night of back-to-back games early in the season, with the Warriors dominating in a 125-94 win. Golden State has struggled recently after losing forward Andre Iguodala to a hamstring injury he sustained during a loss Nov. 22 against the Lakers at Staples Center.

The Golden State Warriors have landed a coveted free agent -- just not the one everybody was talking about. The Warriors reached an agreement with swingman Andre Iguodala on a $48-million, four-year deal Friday, two people with knowledge of the situation said. The Warriors reportedly cleared more than $24 million in salary cap space by sending Richard Jefferson, Andris Biedrins and Brandon Rush to the Utah Jazz along with unspecified draft picks. Yahoo Sports said the Warriors were taking back only Kevin Murphy and his non-guaranteed $788,000 deal for next season.

On Monday, the Lakers let their final asset from the Dwight Howard trade slip away. The team's $1.2-million trade exception for Christian Eyenga, a throw-in to the Orlando Magic as part of the four-team trade, expired a full year after the initial blockbuster deal. The Lakers would have been able to acquire a player in trade, making up to $1.3 million (the Eyenga exception, plus the padding of $100,000 allowed by the league), without sending out any players to match salary. A trade exception can also be used to claim a player off waivers, provided his salary is not more than the allotted exception.

Julius Erving thinks that teams need to exercise caution when making deals with the Boston Celtics or the Lakers. "When you talk to the Lakers, when you talk to the Celtics, when you talk to -- well, those two in particular -- the guy on the other end of the phone has his fingers crossed," Erving told the Philadelphia Inquirer on Wednesday before the premiere of "The Doctor," a documentary on his life. "So whatever he's telling you, he's not telling you the truth. He's working a deal for him. And what happened to us last year with getting damaged goods hopefully will only happen once.

It could be the countdown to nothing for the Philadelphia 76ers, the way each breathless update is offset by another discouraging development. Andrew Bynum will be ready for the start of training camp after receiving injections in his arthritic knees in Germany! Actually, it's auf Wiedersehen until late October because of pain in the center's right knee. Once the discomfort in Bynum's knee subsides, he'll be rolling toward a quick return! Well, that is until he put his left knee in the gutter in November while bowling.

Iguodala is one of the Nuggets leading scorers at 15.6 points per game while shooting 46.3% from the field and 40% from behind the arc. He's also collecting 5.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. "I've been a fan of his since he came out of Arizona," said Lakers All-Star Kobe Bryant, who has a strong relationship with Iguodala off the court.  "I've always tried to look out for him as much as I could, talk to him about the game and things like that.
