As an executive with Anheuser-Busch, and as a woman, I was very disturbed by the article "Brewers Raise Glass to New Pals--Women" (March 24), which treated as credible the ridiculous assertion that beer ads designed for women will somehow cause abusive drinking among women. To suggest that women are incapable of making the responsible decisions is not only condescending, but insulting. When a company such as Anheuser-Busch develops an advertising campaign that features women in a positive way, only those with some larger agenda would criticize the initiative.

Anheuser-Busch Cos. of the United States hopes it can soon solve a trademark problem with brewers in Czechoslovakia that stops it from selling its Budweiser beer in much of Europe, board member and Vice President Jerry Ritter said Monday. "We do have a trademark issue with the Czechoslovaks with regard of the use of the name Budweiser," Ritter said. The problem has arisen because a Czechoslovakian beer has that name. Anheuser-Busch Cos. had a record performance for the third quarter and nine months. The company reported record gross sales of $2.01 billion for the third quarter of 1985, an increase of 3.5% over gross sales of $1.95 billion for the third quarter of 1984. Gross sales for the first nine months of 1985 were $5.83 billion, an increase of 7.4% over gross sales of $5.43 billion for the like period in 1984. Net income for the third quarter of 1985 was $143.6 million, an increase of 11.
