Former Wyoming kicker Sean Fleming made a 36-yard field goal in the second round of overtime to help the Edmonton Eskimos beat the Montreal Alouettes, 38-35, on Sunday night in the 93rd Grey Cup. "We persevered. We fought back. I absolutely love these guys," said Eskimo Coach Danny Maciocia, the seventh coach in CFL history to win the Grey Cup in his first season.

In a town of big gamblers, it was Utah State's high-rolling offense that came up a winner in the second Las Vegas Bowl. With Anthony Calvillo throwing for three touchdowns and Profall Grier running for two, the Aggies kicked off the major college bowl season Friday night by beating Ball State, 42-33. Calvillo threw for 286 yards and Grier ran for 142 as Utah State's run-and-shoot offense overcame some defensive lapses to give the Aggies the first bowl win in school history.

Anthony Calvillo passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two more to lead Utah State to its first victory, a 48-21 rout of previously unbeaten New Mexico State Saturday at Logan, Utah. New Mexico State, 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the Big West, saw its longest winning streak since 1985 come to an end. Calvillo, a junior college transfer in his first start at quarterback for the Aggies (1-3, 1-0), guided Utah State to six scoring drives in seven first-half possessions.

The El Camino College football team looked intense throughout its last home game of the season Saturday night and the result was a 32-27 Mission Conference victory over Mt. San Antonio College. The Warriors (5-4 overall, 4-3 in league play) nearly lost the game when the Mounties (5-4, 3-4) drove to the El Camino four-yard line in the closing seconds but failed to score.

Backup quarterback Chris Vargas passed for 388 yards and five touchdowns in the second half to bring Nevada from behind to a 48-47 Big West Conference victory over Utah State Saturday at Reno. Vargas hit Bryan Reeves with a 28-yard scoring pass with 1:12 remaining for the game-winning touchdown and the Wolf Pack, 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the Big West, held off a final threat by Utah State (4-6, 3-2).
