Andrew Breitbart, already an increasingly prominent player in the political and media influence game, never had a moment quite like the one on June 6, 2011. One of his websites, BigGovernment.com, had caused a sensation when it posted lewd photos of a man that appeared to be U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner , a firebrand liberal congressman from New York. Breitbart's move came after a suggestive photo of Weiner had been posted on the Democrat's Twitter account, which the congressman repeatedly said was the work of hackers, though he had not offered any evidence.

It saddens and pains me to say it, but the granddaddy of all Halloween theme park events has gotten tired, old and complacent. After 39 years, Halloween Haunt at Knott's Berry Farm looks like a creaky, middle-aged zombie that's lost its will to rise from the grave every night. > Halloween Haunt 2011 preview: Mazes | Shows | Photos I'm not sure whether to blame the malaise on contemptuous familiarity, increased competition or just a slow night on an opening weekend, but the Buena Park theme park that set the bar for haunted attraction excellence has become overrun with interchangeable mazes full of indistinguishable monsters.

Facing the most intense calls yet for his resignation, Rep. Anthony Weiner said Saturday that he would seek professional help in the wake of a still-raging scandal over his online sexual liaisons with at least six women. After House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats declared that the New York Democrat should quit, Weiner's office instead said that he would take a leave of absence to seek treatment. Weiner "departed this morning to seek professional treatment to focus on becoming a better husband and healthier person," a spokeswoman for the congressman said.

Democratic Rep. David Wu of Oregon announced Tuesday that he would resign from Congress, following allegations of sexual misconduct with a young woman. The resignation announcement came in the wake of a report last week that the daughter of a longtime friend and campaign donor called the congressman's office this year to accuse him of an unwanted sexual encounter on Thanksgiving. Wu, 56, acknowledged the incident to his aides but said it was consensual, the Oregonian newspaper reported.

From Truckee, Calif. When it comes to a holiday, no one writes tearjerkers better than Plaschke . But I thought I might give it a try this Father's Day. I know I cried when the Grocery Store Bagger said he would join me on my golfing getaway to Lake Tahoe. The Bagger might be in good health and have all his arms and legs, but the Bagger has so much more to overcome. And talk about a sad story. I never had a son. Or grandson. Finally got a male dog, but he squats like a female dog. I have six fish in a pond, but in the last five years they have made no attempt to mate.

We went for it anyway ... even though we were geographically undesirable. Love knows no bounds, right? So we flew in the face of reason and committed to a commuter relationship. If it weren't for the vexing distance between us, we'd be the inspiration for a Lifetime movie. His marriage officially dissolved the same week my husband died 51/2 years ago. Middle-aged, hearts trampled, we rediscovered joy and magic and all those things supposedly reserved for the young. We'd been friends for 30 years.

The House of Representatives has granted Rep. Anthony Weiner a two-week leave of absence, even as the top House Democrat made clear that the beleaguered New York congressman was not wanted back at the Capitol. The request for a leave was approved Monday evening by unanimous consent. Shortly after, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi repeated her call for Weiner's resignation and told reporters that she hoped her colleague "will hear this and know that it's in his best interest for him to leave Congress.

For Anthony Weiner, it all began unraveling in a House office building. It was there, just a few days into the then-small-scale story over a mysterious photo of a man's underwear that had flooded the Twitterverse, that Weiner's façade began to crack as he was confronted by aggressive questioning from a CNN reporter and producer. Until then, the New York Democrat had largely been given the benefit of the doubt. As the photo surfaced over Memorial Day weekend, much of the media's attention focused on whether Weiner was the victim of a conservative sting, perhaps orchestrated by the irrepressible Andrew Breitbart.

The interview was first reported by FoxNews.com, which had a reporter at the girl’s home when police arrived. “According to Congressman Weiner, his communications with this person were neither explicit nor indecent," a spokeswoman for the New York Democrat said.

Rep. Anthony Weiner said again Thursday that he would not resign, despite pressure from his Democratic colleagues to do so. The New York Post released video of the New York congressman speaking with one of its reporters in midtown Manhattan, where he had left his lawyer's office. He said he was returning to his district office to "get some work done. " "I've betrayed a lot of people and I know it, and I'm trying to get back to work now, try to make amends to my constituents and of course to my family," he said.
