J. C. Penney Shopping Channel Sued Over Lease: The owners of the Aquarius Theatre in Hollywood filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday against the J. C. Penney Television Shopping Channel Inc., claiming that the production company backed out of plans to rent the facility beginning Feb. 1. The suit seeks $1.95 million in damages for breach of contract for the building's owners, Pick-Vanoff Co., a limited partnership doing business as Sunset-Gower Studios. (Filed Jan. 30, 1990.

Telethon Total: Singer Lou Rawls' 12th annual telethon to benefit black colleges collected $10 million in pledges at the Aquarius Theatre in Hollywood and the Apollo Theatre in Harlem on Saturday. Nancy Wilson, Ed McMahon and Marilyn McCoo co-hosted the L.A. event with Rawls. Singer Clint Holmes and actress Jackee co-hosted in New York. Participants included Bill Cosby, Bob Hope, Melba Moore, Reba McEntire and Roseanne and Tom Arnold.

From the "Look out, L.A.--here I come" file: Geraldo Rivera today kicks off a week of appearances in town to hype his talk show's move next Monday from mornings on KTLA-TV Channel 5 to 4 p.m. on KCBS-TV Channel 2. And, to boost his new L.A. presence, the normally New York-based show will tape five segments this week at the Aquarius Theatre.

Mark Alan Lipschutz, 45, director of the Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera and the Music Theatre of Ventura. During his career in production and management, Lipschutz also served as stage manager for three national touring companies of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical "Evita" through 1,400 performances in 110 cities. This year he received the Independent Theatre Award for his work on "Evita." Lipschutz had served as stage manager of the Aquarius Theatre in Los Angeles, producer of Head Liners Ltd.

Lupe Ontiveros, who died Thursday at age 69, was an actress whom many knew from her comedic supporting roles in movies and television. But Ontiveros was also a long-standing member of the Los Angeles theater community and served as a founding board member of the Latino Theater Company in downtown L.A. Ontiveros helped found the company in 1985 and acted in many of its productions over the years. Her most recent appearance was in 2010 in a revival production of " La Victima ," written by El Teatro de la Esperanza, at the New L.A. Theatre Center.  Jose Luis Valenzuela, the company's artistic director, described Ontiveros as an amazing talent.

I was the only girl Miguel Delgado ever dropped while dancing. That's what the most popular dancer ever to come out of Boyle Heights told me back in 1981. He let me slip while we were dancing by the drunken moonlight on a hillside at 2 a.m. in a small central California town. When Miguel arrived in San Juan Bautista, pop. 1,200, we didn't know what hit us. He strutted through the streets of our small Western town in his brown charro jacket with the Mexican eagle on his back.
