Anaheim's effort to bring a third NBA team to Southern California reached its latest peak Thursday, as the Sacramento Kings' owners explained their interest in making Honda Center their new home and the city's mayor expressed his enthusiasm to Commissioner David Stern in New York. Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof were joined by siblings George and Phil in making a 90-minute proposal to the NBA's Board of Governors' relocation committee about the benefits of a new home in Orange County.

Reporting from Sacramento The signs were carefully, almost lovingly, arranged in strategic, TV-friendly positions throughout the arena before the Clippers-Kings game here Monday night. DON'T BE L.A.! BEAT L.A.! The Kings took care of the latter command, beating the Clippers, 105-99, at Arco Arena, ruining the debut of the two newest Clippers, point guard Mo Williams and small forward Jamario Moon. Here, though, the focal points were the three Kings and co-owners, the brothers Maloof, sitting in the front row across from the Sacramento bench, looking happier and more engaged as the game progressed.

If you have to kiss a lot of amphibians to find a prince, you have to woo a lot of NBA teams to win one's heart. With March 1 the deadline to file for relocation, Sacramento Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof are maintaining a stony silence about their intentions. This suggests two possibilities for Anaheim with its NBA-ready arena, after months of discussions with the Maloofs, who reportedly visited two weeks ago: It's Plan A, with the Maloofs giving Sacramento a last chance.

Tyreke Evans scored 17 points, including a go-ahead driving layup with 1.9 seconds to play, and the Sacramento Kings overcame an early 19-point deficit to beat the Clippers 96-94 on Tuesday night in a preseason game. Chris Kaman had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Clippers (1-7) before fouling out with 2:28 remaining and the score tied at 87. Baron Davis had 15 points and eight assists. The Clippers lost their final six preseason games. Their only win came against Sacramento 93-3)
