Looking to expand the high school curriculum, Capistrano Unified School District trustees tonight will consider a proposal to create two new educational academies at Aliso Niguel High School. As part of the district's goal to better prepare students, Capistrano Unified has created specialized academies on high school campuses that are designed to link the curriculum to core career paths and to provide students with more marketable skills.

John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles will hold its seventh annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony May 10, 1991. The Hall of Fame Committee is seeking nominations. The criteria for selection are: Outstanding contributions to and/or achievements in the area of arts, athletics, business, civics and government, community, education or professional. Except under special circumstances, the nominee must be a graduate of Fremont High School.

Re "Clinton to Ask $3-Billion Increase for Science," Jan. 21: We don't need an increase of money for information technology. Business and industry will support that area of scientific and technological development. True: Bill Clinton's ham and sausage order was placed on an Internet spawned by Department of Defense projects of the '70s, but information science, with its clear commercial applications, will continue to be supported by consumers like Clinton in any case. Research grants should routinely include archiving requirements so that archiving does not need separate funding.

"There seemed to be no unified response from the artistic community following the resignation of the Port Commission's Arts Advisory Committee this summer," said Jim Barker, a professor of art history at San Diego State University and coalition spokesman.

The Los Angeles Unified School District is accepting applications from students interested in enrolling in one of its 105 magnet programs. The district's magnet centers and schools are voluntary integration programs that offer emphasis in such areas as math, computer science, medicine, performing arts and business. Some magnet programs emphasize alternative teaching approaches; others serve students identified as especially gifted or talented. Students living anywhere in the district may apply.

People come from miles around to see the dazzling Christmas display at the Hensley Co., a wholesale graphic arts manufacturing business in South Pasadena. The display is set up each year by owner Dean Hensley, his brother Steven and employee Tim Parisi, who started getting into the Christmas spirit seven years ago. They began by decorating the building exterior and two trees, but each year the project has grown, and now they spend about a month getting ready for the holidays.
