Celebrity clothing brands have become a ubiquitous force in fashion, but this wasn't always the case. A decade ago, attaching a famous name to a mass-market brand was still fairly rare and was seen by some as a last alternative when movie scripts and TV offers slowed down. But now it's not only acceptable, it's almost expected. Some celebrities are serious about fashion, such as designer-actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, whose multiple lines include the Row and Elizabeth and James, and singer-actor Justin Timberlake, who has William Rast.

Actress Ashley Olsen has sold her Hancock Park home for $1,399,000. The 1926 Spanish-style house has a wood-beam ceiling and fireplace in the living room, an arched doorway leading to the formal dining room and a second-story balcony with a period tile staircase. There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms in 2,322 square feet. French doors open to a covered patio and a yard, which has a tiled pool with a spa. Olsen, 23, starred in the sitcom "Full House" (1987-95), playing the same character with her fraternal twin, Mary-Kate Olson, starting at the age of 6 months.

Teen actress Mary-Kate Olsen has taken a leave of absence from New York University to focus on the entertainment company she runs with her twin sister, Ashley, her spokesman said Friday. "She's not dropping out. She's taking an approved leave of absence to focus on her increasing responsibilities and live her life," spokesman Michael Pagnotta said, adding that Olsen had returned to Los Angeles.

Ever since they were babies, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have had a huge and loyal fan following that has turned the twin actresses into merchandise moguls as well. Now that they're 18, they'll start learning whether they still have that same appeal as grown-ups. Ashley Olsen has canceled a trip to Australia to stay with her twin sister, Mary-Kate, who is being treated for "a health-related issue." Us Weekly and People magazines reported this week that Mary-Kate has an eating disorder and had entered an unidentified treatment center. Her publicist, Michael Pagnotta, wouldn't comment on those reports. Ashley had been scheduled to attend the Australian premiere of their new movie, "New York Minute," in Melbourne next week.
