The Century, a luxury condominium tower in Century City, will soon house a restaurant operated by high-profile Los Angeles chef David Myers. His yet-to-be-named restaurant will be open to the public and also cater private meals and events for residents of the 41-story tower such as Candy Spelling, who owns the top two floors. The ground-floor restaurant will have a separate driveway and entrance from the residences, said Jeff Blau, president of the Related Cos., the developer of the tower on Avenue of the Stars.

Tomlinson Family Trust bought the 180,000-square-foot La Paz Office Plaza at 25200-25431 Cabot Road in Laguna Hills from Prime Real Estate Equities I. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but industry sources believe the selling price was about $26 million. Josh Levy and Martin Cohan of Grubb & Ellis represented the buyer. Robert Smith, Michael Kane, Karen Scholte, Gary Stache and Mark Larson of CB Richard Ellis represented the seller.

Sares-Regis Group of Irvine purchased the 348-unit Waterstone Apartments at 9901 Lurline Ave. in Chatsworth from Pacific Property Co. for more than $30.7 million. The buyer and the seller were represented by Bill DuBrowa, Baron Jones, David Casper and Bruce Furniss of Grubb & Ellis. * Aslan Realty Group of Irvine bought the 220-unit Marin Club apartments at 2241-2263 W. Valley Blvd. in Pomona for $13.2 million from Steadfast MCA of Newport Beach.

In one of the largest office transactions on the Westside this year, the law firm of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips signed a 12-year sublease that expands its offices by 72,000 square feet at Trident Center, a two-building complex at 11355 and 11377 W. Olympic Blvd. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed, but it was estimated to be about $40 million. The sublandlord, Metropolitan Life, was represented by Marty Barkan, Serge Vishmid, Bruce Kaufer and Michael Hobbs of Grubb & Ellis.

California Community News, a subsidiary of the Los Angeles Times, signed a 10-year, $16.3-million lease for 324,520 square feet of industrial space at Irwindale Business Center at 5091 Fourth St. in Irwindale. Phil Lombardo of Trammell Crow Co. represented the landlord, Crow Holdings Industrial Trust. The tenant was represented by Bennett Robinson of CB Richard Ellis.

Seattle-based Safeco Insurance signed a 15-year lease for 120,000 square feet of office space at the first phase of Shea Properties' new Vantis project, a $350-million development on a 40-acre site at Laguna Hills Drive and Enterprise in Aliso Viejo Town Center. Financial terms of the lease were not disclosed, but it would be more than $50 million at anticipated asking rates for the Vantis space.
