Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini

The Ayatollah Hussein Ali Montazeri, who was once in line to succeed the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini as Iran's supreme leader, is under house arrest in the holy city of Qom, a source in Tehran said Thursday. Word of Montazeri's status came by telephone shortly after a Baghdad-based Iranian opposition group said Revolutionary Guards and security men had arrested relatives of Montazeri after his fall from grace.
