A man was arrested and charged Tuesday with murdering his pregnant former girlfriend and her 7-year-old son, both of whom disappeared from their home over the weekend. Hours after the arrest, authorities found two bodies matching the descriptions of Lisa Underwood and her son, Jayden, authorities said. Stephen Dale Barbee, 37, admitted arguing with Underwood about leaving his wife, according to court papers.

A toddler who wandered into the laundry room of her grandparents' Santa Ana home died after she fell head-first into a bucket of water. Santa Ana Police Lt. Jack Nelson said 13-month-old Mary Lou Bonella of Pomona wandered from the baby shower her grandparents were having Saturday for her mother, Maria Bonella, who is eight months pregnant. Nelson said police were called at 8:40 p.m.

Sunny Elijah Peralez, the 8-year-old boy who was shot in the head as he stood inside a South-Central residence, has died, and his mother said Monday that she cannot afford a funeral. The victim of what police called a gang-related drive-by shooting had been kept on life support until late Sunday at County-USC Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said. His organs were harvested to be donated to others.

An Anaheim man was convicted of first-degree murder Friday for his participation in the execution-style slaying of a Los Angeles man in Fountain Valley's Mile Square Park last year. The conviction of Minh Cong Do, 19, came only hours after law enforcement authorities extradited another suspect who was arrested in Canada in connection with the September, 1990, shooting of Loa Le, 34, officials said. A woman who convinced her husband she was pregnant -- and was even thrown a baby shower -- killed a pregnant acquaintance and cut the fetus from her womb, authorities said Monday. Effie Goodson, 37, faces two first-degree murder charges and a kidnapping count in the slaying of Carolyn Simpson, 21, who was six months pregnant, and the fetus. Goodson is scheduled to appear in court today. A hunter found Simpson's body in a field near Lamar, about 100 miles from Oklahoma City, on Friday.
