OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Standing at the lectern, Mindy Corporon calmly spoke about love in the face of hatred, describing how two people so central to her life - her father and her son - were shot to death by a gunman who police say is a white supremacist bent on violence. Her voice steady, she described arriving Sunday afternoon moments after the attacker, whom police identified as Frazier Glenn Cross, opened fire in the parking lot of the Jewish Community Center here, a shooting rampage that took the lives of three people, including a woman outside a nearby Jewish senior center.

Utah police have arrested a 39-year-old woman in connection with the discovery of seven infants' bodies in the garage of a home in a small community 40 minutes south of Salt Lake City. Pleasant Grove Police Capt. Michael Roberts told the Los Angeles Times on Sunday that investigators think Megan Huntsman gave birth to all of the infants between 1996 and 2006 and then killed them. “We believe she birthed each baby and then killed it after it was born,” he said. Police made the grisly finding Saturday morning in the town of 35,000 after the woman's estranged husband, who was cleaning the garage prior to moving back into the home, found a dead infant and called authorities.

Welcome home, Kaufman family! Today, as my colleague Tony Perry reports, the Navy warship that rescued Eric and Charlotte Kaufman and their two tiny daughters, made port in San Diego. In order to dodge a media scrum, Perry relates, the Kaufmans were dropped off at the Naval Air Station North Island, before the ship docked at its home port, the 32nd Street Naval Station, across San Diego Bay. They will not just be arriving home in San Diego; they will also be sailing (metaphorically, this time)

Corona Police found a deceased newborn girl wrapped in plastic bags inside a trash dumpster Tuesday, officials said. Authorities said they were led to the dumpster by the mother, who told police she thought the baby was stillborn at the time of the birth and decided to throw her away. The mother, who was not named and has not been charged at this time, showed up at Kaiser Permanente's Riverside Medical Center on Tuesday evening claiming she had been "injured. " During an examination, staff came to the conclusion that she had likely recently given birth and called police.

SEATTLE - A broken leg. A shattered ankle. A broken arm. A fractured eye socket. And a memory of terror that will be with her forever, its soundtrack an "unexplainable" noise "that will never get out of my head. " That is what Amanda Skorjanc, 25, remembers after the March 22 Oso landslide that destroyed her home, almost wiped her little town off the map and nearly killed her infant son, Duke Suddarth, who was 22 weeks old when the disaster struck. At least 36 people were killed and 10 others remain missing.
