Matt Barnes walked out onto the Clippers' court Friday and started shooting wearing dark goggles, sort of a Terminator look for the small forward. Barnes has missed the last 16 games recovering from surgery to repair a torn retina in his left eye, but Coach Doc Rivers said Barnes would play Saturday night against the Denver Nuggets at Staples Center. And, no, Barnes won't be wearing those shaded goggles, but he will wear a pair when he plays. “I think it'll be good,” Rivers said.

Matt Barnes was back on the practice court for a shoot-around Wednesday, along with a new set of goggles and a flurry of nicknames. “They've been all over the place,” the Clippers small forward said, “from Eric Dickerson to James Worthy.” Nothing his teammates said could dampen the spirits of Barnes, who said he was thrilled to be back after missing nearly a month to have three surgeries to repair a damaged left retina. Barnes has been cleared to play, but it was unknown if he would participate in the Clippers' game against the New Orleans Pelicans at Staples Center on Wednesday night.

An investor has filed a lawsuit against Barnes & Noble Inc., accusing the book retailer of shoddy financial reporting that resulted in a recently disclosed Securities and Exchange Commission investigation. David Shaev, a New York attorney and Barnes & Noble shareholder, named several of the company's executives as defendants in the lawsuit, filed Tuesday in state Supreme Court in New York County. The lawsuit is the latest dose of discouraging news for the retailer. In July, the company disclosed that many of its prior financial statements contained errors.

The Clippers are embarking on their longest trip of the season, a seven-game, 11-day excursion that will test them because of the grind and the absence of one starter and a key reserve. Only three of the teams the Clippers will face had at least a .500 record going into Monday night's games. The Clippers play their first game on this trip in Atlanta on Wednesday night. But the Clippers won't have starting guard J.J. Redick, who will be out six to eight weeks after breaking, and tearing ligaments in, his right, shooting hand.

SWEETWATER STATION, Wyo. - In the fading afternoon light, the barnyard is turning raucous: the chickens are clucking, peacocks are pacing and sheep are bawling, making the llama a bit nervous. The donkey just works his gums as though chawing on a plug of tobacco. Polly Hinds and Lynda German stand beaming amid the chaos, their old blue tractor in the background, framed by an endless expanse of prairie sky. For the two literary outliers, it is the end of another precious day on their unlikely experiment in the middle of Wyoming's nowhere.
