For Better Living Inc. said that it had net earnings of $2.3 million for its fiscal 1986, compared to profits of $43,000 the year before. Sales for the fiscal year, which ended Dec. 27, were $70.1 million, up 49% from $47.1 million. For its fourth quarter, the company earned $787,000, contrasted with a $751,000 loss in the same period the previous year. For Better Living Inc. of San Juan Capistrano reported net income of $709,000 for the second quarter ended June 27, up 24% from $570,000 in that period last year. Sales for the period were $19.6 million, an 18% increase from $16.5 million last year. For the first half of the year, total profits came to $902,000, up 18% from $766,000 last year. For Better Living Inc. said Thursday that it will purchase the site of its Quikset/Associated Concrete plant in Santa Ana for $3.8 million through escrow. The company said it will continue to make precast concrete products at the site, and will evaluate potential uses for any land surplus. For Better Living publishes magazines and makes precast concrete and plastic building products.

For Better Living Inc. said it promoted two of its officers to newly created executive vice presidencies. Frank Ciotti, vice president-finance, and Walter Hahne, corporate vice president and head of the company's concrete products division, were given the new titles to reflect their increased authority and responsibilities, said F.G. Fabian, chairman and president. The San Juan Capistrano-based company has interests in concrete and plastics products, publishing and nuts and bolts.
