A poster offering teen-agers a chance to appear on the popular television show "Beverly Hills, 90210" is an "out-and-out swindle," Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner said Monday. Teen-agers who call the phone number listed on the poster are asked to send a $12 "processing fee" along with a picture to a Beverly Hills post office box, Reiner said.

On "Beverly Hills, 90210," the on-again, off-again Kelly and Brandon are off (again), Donna is dating another in her series of angry young men and wicked Val is still, well, wicked. Meanwhile, when we last visited Capeside, a.k.a. "Dawson's Creek," Dawson and Joey had just kissed, which may or may not lead to you know where, and how's Jen supposed to cope with all this?

In Department A of Van Nuys Superior Court, a palace of paperwork where civil cases are assigned to judges, there usually is little action. But on Friday morning--cloaked in intense secrecy--a great drama was played out in the court chambers. Was it the verdict in the Menendez brothers' murder trial? The sentencing of "Super Freak" singer Rick James on drug and sexual-assault charges? Hardly.

With her generous smile and a simple request, a Newport Beach girl newly awakened from nearly three months in a coma has managed to touch Hollywood hearts. As she made her public debut Thursday at a Santa Ana medical center where she is recovering from a car accident, Amanda Arthur quietly revealed her fondest wish for her 18th birthday on Sept. 11. In careful, broken whispers and at the urging of her older sister, Amanda said, "I would like all the girls from '90210' to come visit me."

When a group of Hermosa Beach residents filed suit to block "Beverly Hills, 90210" from filming at a beachfront apartment complex, they drew fire from business leaders who assert that such opposition is driving the movie and TV industry out of state. But the controversy has now come down to a less earth-shattering issue: zoning laws. Torrance Superior Court Commissioner Abraham Gorenfeld says the residents' group must prove at a Sept.

Barely a week after the Los Angeles Board of Education voted to distribute condoms in city schools, Fox Broadcasting's "Beverly Hills, 90210" brings the issue to national TV tonight. In the episode scheduled for broadcast at 9 p.m., the show's teen characters petition their school board in favor of condom distribution on their high school campus. Unlike the Los Angeles decision, however, the teens--led by the character of Andrea, the editor of the school newspaper--lose their battle.

Fox's expensive and unprecedented decision to produce eight summer episodes of "Beverly Hills, 90210" paid handsome dividends in its first test Thursday night. The hourlong drama about students at fictitious West Beverly Hills High finished second in its 9-10 p.m. time slot behind reruns of "Cheers" and "Wings" on NBC, according to figures released Friday by the A.C. Nielsen Co. It was seen in nearly the same number of homes (about 10.

"Beverly Hills 90210" is widely regarded as one of the first television shows that no hip teen-ager can ignore. And rightfully so. It talks teen talk. It stars teen mega-stars. It has even spawned a handful of teen-embracing clones. So, it would seem only logical that any marketer wanting to tap into teen-agers would link its products to the show. Dozens have. Coca-Cola and UA Theatres just began a "90210" poster giveaway and sweepstakes.

TV producer Aaron Spelling, upset at the way a new Fox TV show parodied his hit Fox series "Beverly Hills, 90210," is threatening to sue the producers unless they make a public apology and promise never to do it again. In an unusual twist of events that puts the Fox network in the embarrassing position of having offended its top program supplier, Spelling says that a Sept.

We heard last week that the CW television network was fast-tracking a remake of "Beverly Hills, 90210" -- the teen soap that paved the way for dramas like "Dawson's Creek," "The OC" and reality shows like "The Hills." While series creator Darren Starr isn't involved with the project, Rob Thomas, the mind behind the cheeky "Veronica Mars," is being asked to write about the next generation of Peach Pit-goers. We know that the original class of West Beverly High left some pretty big shoes to fill, so while the project's still in its nascent stages, we'd like to offer a few suggestions for a few pivotal roles: "High School Musical" poster boy Zac Efron is a natural for a young Brandon Walsh, and Mary-Kate Olsen, who's already living a Shannen Doherty-like lifestyle, would be perfect as his rebellious twin sister, Brenda.
