As part of the Birch Street Promenade, the CIM Group constructed an icon tower next to the Old Navy building at the northeast corner of Birch Street and Brea Boulevard. The purpose of the sign tower is to promote activities within the downtown area and the city. Members of the Planning Commission approved special operating criteria for the tower. The primary use will be to advertise events and activities promoted by the Brea Downtown Owners Assn.

Los Angeles-based CIM Group, known for renovating retail buildings in trendy locales such as Santa Monica's famed Third Street Promenade and San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, has started construction in Brea on the first phase of Birch Street Promenade--a $16-million project designed to re-create Main Street-style shopping in the suburban Orange County community.
