Cyber Monday brings out the strangest hotel bargains, but we're not complaining. These two Manhattan hotels make a winter trip to the Big Apple a bit more affordable. But watch the timing: One deal has a tiny booking period, while the other is wide open. The Duane Street Hotel in New York’s fashionable Tribeca neighborhood  plans to have a 29-minute sale on Cyber Monday (Nov. 29). Whew, set your stopwatches now! From 1:29 p.m. to 1:58 p.m. EST (10:29 a.m. to 10:58 a.m. PST)

"You only turn 40 once," Southwest Airlines says on its online sale page. Really? I feel as though Southwest has been ballyhooing birthday promotions forever -- not that I'm complaining. The airline Tuesday launched an autumn airfare sale with one-way fares of $40, $80 and $120 depending on how far you fly. But think fast because the offer is good only until Thursday. And be patient -- Southwest's website may be slow to upload. The deal: The Celebrating 40 Years With $40 Fares One-Way sale works this way: $40 for short flights (up to 450 miles)

It's no secret that movies inspire travelers to visit places they see on the big screen. Now one travel company has designed a tour to India based on the movie " The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel . " The film takes place in Rajasthan, and the 13-day tour follows suit. However participants stay in four-star hotels rather than the down-at-the-heel "hotel" shown in the film (though there's a visit to that site). The trip begins and ends in Delhi and includes a tuk-tuk ride, a visit to Kanota Castle where the Viceroy Club was set in the film, and a day trip to Rawla Kumpar to see the hotel featured in the movie.

The British Museum in London has unveiled a major exhibition, "Life and Death in Pompeii and Herculaneum," focusing on the Roman home and the people who lived in these two fated cities destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79. The museum brings together more than 250 objects, both recent discoveries and finds from earlier excavations. Many have never been seen outside Italy.  For ancient history lovers, the Montague on the Gardens , around the corner from the museum, is offering a "Pompeii and Herculaneum" package that includes a two-night stay, breakfast for two both mornings and a pair of tickets to the exhibition (about $22 each)

Winter airfare sales are such a distraction at this time of year. Aren't we all supposed to be holiday shopping? Nevermind. Check out what could be good savings on fares for winter or spring break. Would you believe $19 to Las Vegas? JetBlue Airways: Las Vegas is the sweet spot for this airfare sale. The airline's website said Tuesday that JetBlue will fly five flights daily between Long Beach and Las Vegas and, for a limited time, will charge just $19 plus tax each way. Last week, no-frills newcomer Allegiant Air promoted a $40.68 round-trip fare on the same route to celebrate its new service, which starts Dec. 15. It will be interesting to see how this Vegas airfare war plays out – hopefully with more low fares for fliers.
